What Chakra Candle Should I Use? A Simple Guide to All 7
Share
Seven candles, seven colours, seven crystal combinations, and one question we hear a lot at the stall in Castlerea: what chakra candle should I use? It's a fair question. If you didn't grow up with yoga or meditation, words like Muladhara and Svadhisthana can sound more like a spelling test than a way to unwind.
The good news is that choosing a chakra candle is simpler than it looks. You don't need to be an expert, and there's no wrong answer. This guide walks you through what each of our chakra crystal candles is traditionally associated with, how to pick one based on how you'd like to feel, and a few tips to get the best from it once it's lit.
What are chakras, in plain English?
Chakras come from ancient Indian tradition, and the word itself means "wheel" in Sanskrit. The idea is that there are seven main energy centres running from the base of your spine to the top of your head, and each one is linked with a colour, an element and a part of everyday life, from feeling grounded to feeling creative, confident or connected.
You don't have to take it all literally to get something from it. Many people simply use the chakras as a handy framework: a way of naming what they need on a given day and building a small ritual around it. Lighting a candle with that intention in mind, putting the phone down and taking ten slow breaths is a pretty good way to spend an evening, whatever you believe about energy centres.
What's in a Socki chakra candle?
Each of our chakra crystal candles is hand-poured soy wax in a glass jar, with a crackling wood wick and real gemstone crystals set on top. Every chakra has its own crystal pairing and its own fragrance, so they smell as different as they look. Each one burns for roughly 17 hours, costs €11.99, and once it's finished you're left with a reusable jar and the crystals to keep.

The seven chakra candles, one by one
Root chakra candle (Muladhara): for feeling grounded
The root chakra sits at the base of the spine and is traditionally linked with security, stability and feeling at home in yourself. Its colour is red. Our Root Chakra Crystal Candle is topped with Red Jasper and Black Agate and scented with Black Oud, a rich, woody fragrance with notes of saffron, rose and patchouli. It's a lovely choice for the first dark evenings of winter, after a hectic week, or any time life feels a bit scattered. If you're completely new to chakras, many people start here, at the foundation.
Sacral chakra candle (Svadhisthana): for creativity and flow
Just below the navel, the sacral chakra is associated with creativity, pleasure and going with the flow. Its colour is orange. The Sacral Chakra Crystal Candle pairs Tiger's Eye with Rose Quartz and carries an uplifting fragrance called Invoking Dreams. Light it when you're sketching, writing, cooking something new, or just trying to shake yourself out of a rut.
Solar plexus chakra candle (Manipura): for confidence
The solar plexus chakra, in the upper stomach, is linked with confidence, willpower and self-esteem, and its colour is yellow. Our Solar Plexus Chakra Crystal Candle has Amethyst and Black Agate on top and a warm scent called Deep in the Forest, with bergamot, cardamom, amber and sandalwood. It's a nice one to light the evening before an interview, an exam or a new job, when you want to feel a bit steadier on your feet.
Heart chakra candle (Anahata): for love and kindness
Right in the centre of the chest, the heart chakra is associated with love, compassion and connection, both with others and with yourself. Its colour is green. The Heart Chakra Crystal Candle combines Rose Quartz and Crystal Jade with Rose Musk, a soft blend of rose, peony, pink pepper and musk. It's the one we'd pick for a cosy night in, a self-care Sunday, or as a gift for someone who could do with a bit of minding.
Throat chakra candle (Vishuddha): for saying what you mean
The throat chakra is linked with communication, honesty and self-expression, and its colour is blue. Our Throat Chakra Crystal Candle is topped with Sodalite and Jade and scented with Gentle Reasons, a fresh blend with apple, blackberry and mint. Light it while journaling, writing a letter, or working up to a conversation you've been putting off.
Third eye chakra candle (Ajna): for clarity and intuition
Between the eyebrows sits the third eye chakra, traditionally associated with intuition, insight and seeing things clearly. Its colour is indigo. The Third Eye Chakra Crystal Candle pairs Amethyst with Rose Quartz and has a fragrance called Sweet Crystal Truth, with lemon, bergamot, orchid, jasmine and vanilla. It's a good companion when you're weighing up a decision and want some quiet thinking time.
Crown chakra candle (Sahasrara): for calm and connection
At the very top of the head, the crown chakra is linked with spirituality, peace and a sense of connection to something bigger. Its colour is violet, sometimes shown as white. The Crown Chakra Crystal Candle is topped with Celestite and Selenite and scented with Ocean Breeze, a clean blend of sea salt, lotus and driftwood. It suits meditation, prayer, or simply sitting still at the end of a long day.
Three easy ways to choose
The simplest way is to go by how you want to feel. Use the cheat sheet above, pick the line that sounds most like you right now, and start there. There's no need to overthink it.
The second way is to go by scent. Each candle has its own fragrance, and if you know you love woody smells, fresh smells or florals, that's a perfectly good reason to choose. Woody fans tend to like Root or Solar Plexus, fresh fans lean towards Throat or Crown, and floral lovers usually end up with Heart or Third Eye.
The third way is to go by colour. Some people simply pick the colour they're drawn to on the day and read up on what it means afterwards. It's a surprisingly good way to find out what's on your mind.
Chakra candles as gifts
With Christmas on the way, chakra candles make a thoughtful present because you can match one to the person. Heart for a friend who looks after everyone else, Solar Plexus for someone starting something new, Root for anyone who's moved house or had an unsettled year, Crown for the one who's into meditation. Many come with a short quote on the box, which saves you writing something profound in the card. Pair one with a pack of incense and you've a lovely little gift for not a lot.
How to get the best from your chakra candle
Before each burn, trim the wood wick to about a quarter of an inch. Wood wicks like a short trim, and it keeps the flame steady and the crackle gentle. On the first burn, give it enough time for the melted wax to reach the edge of the jar, which usually takes a couple of hours; this stops the candle tunnelling down the middle and wasting wax. Always burn it on a flat, heat-proof surface, away from draughts, curtains, children and pets, and never leave it unattended.
The crystals sit on the surface of the wax, so keep an eye on them as the candle burns down and move them clear of the flame if they drift towards the wick. Once the candle is finished, give the crystals a wash and keep them on a windowsill, bedside table or desk. The glass jar is handy for pens, makeup brushes or a small plant.
Frequently asked questions
Which chakra candle should a beginner start with?
Many people start with the Root chakra candle, as the root is traditionally seen as the foundation for the rest. That said, the best starting point is simply the one that matches how you want to feel right now.
Can I burn more than one chakra candle at a time?
You can. Some people light two that suit their mood, such as Root and Heart for a grounded, cosy evening. Just keep them a safe distance apart and never leave them unattended.
Do I need to believe in chakras to enjoy the candles?
Not at all. They're hand-poured soy candles with lovely scents and real crystals, and plenty of customers buy them simply because they smell good and look well on a shelf.
How long does a chakra candle burn for?
Each of our chakra crystal candles burns for approximately 17 hours. Trimming the wick and letting the first burn reach the edge of the jar helps you get the full burn time.
What do I do with the crystals afterwards?
Once the candle has burned down, lift the crystals out, rinse them in warm water and keep them. Plenty of people use them on a bedside table or meditation space as a reminder of the intention they set.
